The healthiest approach for children just starting their oral health journey
The healthiest approach for children just starting their oral health journey
As Stafford’s only biological dental office, Dr. Sachin Karande and our team help support your child’s healthiest and safest possible start. Parents and caregivers have peace of mind that Karande Biological Dentistry – Virginia only uses non-toxic products, biocompatible (tissue-friendly) materials, and holistic techniques that are safe for their children and set them on the right, healthy path during their formative years.

How do you treat pediatric patients?
At this stage in life, it is particularly important to create positive experiences. So, your child will be comfortable with dental visits, and we can foster healthy perceptions of dentistry. Your child will carry these positive associations into adulthood, supporting a lifetime of good oral health and overall wellness. We also empower parents with preventive education and guidance on oral care when children are too young to brush and floss on their own. We advise on healthy nutrition and habits to prevent early childhood caries (cavities) and other conditions that can affect their developing teeth, too.
What materials do you use for fillings?
First off, we emphasize prevention. We ideally detect problems with your child’s teeth early and address them before they cause damage like cavities. We do this during regular exams that start early in your child’s life. If your child needs cavity repair with a filling, you can be confident that the materials used will not present additional threats to their good health. These materials include non-toxic, biocompatible, and BPA-free composites for fillings. For more extensive decay, treatment may involve ceramics (like porcelain and zirconia), which are used for crowns and other dental restorations. Bio-cements and adhesive bonding methods further ensure a strong, lasting restoration and mimic the natural functional and aesthetic properties of the teeth.
Do you just treat the teeth and gums?
No. Dr. Karande has developed considerable expertise in airway dentistry. He emphasizes early growth monitoring. These assessments can identify irregularities in the airway and jaw that may require early intervention. Without treatment, these anomalies could lead to serious and life-long health implications. For instance, sleep-disordered breathing or sleep apnea is associated with chronic fatigue and increases the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, respiratory illnesses, and other potentially life-threatening conditions. We can avoid these complications with everything from specialized oral appliances to exercises that combat damaging behaviors (like prolonged thumb-sucking). Early interventions encourage healthy growth patterns and habits. Dr. Karande also applies biological principles in treating tongue- and lip-ties.

How do you treat tongue-tie or lip-tie?
Lasers are a non-invasive way to quickly, gently, and precisely release the tissues that restrict movement and affect the function of the tongue and upper lip. There is no cutting or cutting instruments involved. While we commonly treat children with tongue-ties and lip-ties, this condition can go untreated in adults, too. Without treatment, patients may experience problems with eating, speech, and difficulty cleaning their teeth. The condition is also associated with sleep apnea. We encourage prompt treatment early in life.
