An introduction to advanced laser wellness therapy
An introduction to advanced laser wellness therapy
Our treatments at Karande Biological Dentistry – Virginia not only improve your oral health but also support your immune system to improve your overall health and wellness. The technologies and techniques that Dr. Sachin Karande and our team use to complete treatment also minimize your exposure to harmful materials and toxic substances. Laser treatment perfectly fits the range of other services available at our office, the only one in the Stafford, Virginia area to practice biological dentistry.

What is laser dentistry?
Lasers have been used in medicine for decades. At our practice, Dr. Karande has invested in the advanced Fotona LightWalker® system. This technology allows him to treat conditions more precisely and less painfully than traditional dental treatments. Laser dentistry also promotes a faster and more predictable recovery and post-treatment experience by unlocking your body’s ability to heal naturally.
How do lasers work?
In dental care, the laser is used instead of traditional tools – like scalpels and drills. The laser device emits a focused beam of light energy. When directed toward specific and damaged tissues, the laser energy targets these areas. This powerful and precise process helps us to remove or reshape tissue (be it hard tissues like teeth or soft tissue like gums). We can also use the laser to disinfect areas and to stimulate healing and tissue regeneration. Treatment is also completed optimally without the use of medications, chemicals, and other questionable or harmful substances.
Can you use laser dentistry to treat my cavities?
Of course, every patient’s experience is different because no two individuals’ needs are the same. However, we do use our advanced laser system to repair cavities. Since Dr. Karande’s biological approach is also conservative and preserves the utmost tissues, he often detects early signs of decay before they are visible on X-rays. Early detection and treatment protect the tooth from further damage caused by progressive disease. He supports conservative dentistry at every step in the process, as the laser may be used to remove decayed tissue and to prepare the cavity for a filling without the need for excessive drilling and the removal of more tissue than is necessary to repair and strengthen the damaged tooth. In many cases, lasers support such a comfortable treatment that a local anesthetic is not required.

Do you use lasers for gum disease?
Yes! Lasers present a minimally invasive, well-tolerated, and highly precise alternative to conventional periodontal therapies in treating gum disease. Instead of using cutting tools and techniques, Dr. Karande gently and expertly directs the laser toward the infected tissue. The damaged tissues are then removed without any device ever coming in direct contact with the gums, and certainly without invasive cutting. This approach also minimizes the risk of undesirable side effects and complications – from bleeding to further infection. Due to how lasers are designed, they are uniquely built to trigger your body’s natural healing processes.
A versatile option, lasers have also been used by Dr. Karande to successfully treat:
